Engage in the thrilling process of creating and performing a mini-musical in the indie/folk opera tradition of Hadestown, Once, and Come From Away.
In this two-week intensive, actors will devise an original ensemble-based folk opera with characters inspired by songs they already know and love. They’ll create characters through structured improvisation, develop a shared acting vocabulary, and practice vocal technique and expression through the stories these songs inspire.
Taught by Lights Up! alumni Ada Green, a theatre major at Northwestern University, and Noah Delhi, a theatre major at Stanford University.
Ada Green is a passionate storyteller, actor, and writer born and raised in Santa Barbara. A proud Lights Up! alumna (Seasons 2-7), she now attends Northwestern University as a theatre major concentrating in acting and playwriting. At Northwestern, she is a part of The Bix Musical Improv group and Griffin’s Tale Children’s Repertory Theatre Company in addition to her studies. Ada is endlessly grateful for the artistic foundations LU! gave her and can’t wait to return this summer!
Ava Andrade, a Lights Up! alum and current sophomore at Willamette University, is thrilled to be back with the company that built the foundation for their love of performing - this time as an instructor! Ava is a current psychology and music double-major with an emphasis on vocal performance. From classical to pop to jazz, Ava is engaged in all types of music on their campus and is so excited to pass on what they’ve learned so far!
Bella Garcia-Holland discovered her love of musical theatre at a young age and continued performing at SBHS. She studied voice, piano, and music direction while attending SBCC and UCSB, performing with Shrunken Heads, UCSB Jazz Band, and Lumina Women’s Choir. Since graduating, Bella assisted with vocal direction for Jesus Christ Superstar and Great Comet, directed Once on This Island and In the Heights, taught music and theatre at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, and currently performs with the band Whatever Forever.
Noah Dehli (he/him) is a LightsUp! alum and current sophomore at Stanford University. He's studying theater and music, and has recently performed in Into the Woods, Witch, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Cabaret, and worked as a designer and director for the student-written Come Again, as well as set designing the 48 Hour Musical. Offstage, he has also worked as a fight choreographer and intimacy coordinator. He is also a member of Stanford's long-form improv group.
